Phoenix IT Solutions Ltd. as part of its Corporate Social Responsibility initiative, have sponsored 50 solar lanterns to Guggudu village located in Araku valley, Visakhapatnam District in association with Sanskriti (NDTV Greenathon Project) for TERI’s Lighting a Billion Lives Campaign.
The inauguration of this event was done by Mrs.Vani Gannamani, Director, Phoenix IT Solutions Ltd. on 9th July in the presence of TERI – South India Coordinator, Mr.VVKBN Murthy, Mr.Winston Adams, AVP-Corporate Affairs, Sanskriti and VIKASA team members. The people expressed their happiness on receiving these solar lanterns as this would replace the kerosene lamps which had insufficient lighting, was polluting and had a cost burden. The solar lanterns once charged can provide upto 15 hours of lighting. TERI through their local representative has provided proper training to the villagers to operate the charging station and to take care of the solar lanterns. As per TERI – each solar lantern in its life of 10 years replaces about 500-600 litres of kerosene mitigating about 1.5 tonnes of CO2 and adopting this clean and affordable energy is elementary to one’s quality of life as well as for ensuring socio-economic development.
Speaking on the occasion Phoenix IT Solutions, Director- Mrs.Vani said that this is the first time Phoenix IT Solutions has taken this initiative in Araku valley and we hope that it greatly benefits the people of this village and enlighten their lives.
