Fluentgrid to implement urban ERP & E-governance solution for New Delhi Smart City


Fluentgrid is privileged to be part of yet another landmark project that’s a significant step for the New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC) in building the IT infrastructure essential for strengthening the premier municipal body’s urban services to its privileged residents.


NDMC is a location of national significance, comprising India’s most iconic government buildings such as the Rashtrapati Bhavan (Presidential Palace), Parliament House, and Supreme Court. The efficient and effective delivery of municipal services in this area is critical to the smooth functioning of India’s legislative and judicial pillars.

Close on the heels of our recent association with Larsen & Toubro (L&T) to make NDMC, as the India’s first 100% smart-metered municipal utility, Fluentgrid is now working with L&T (SW&C) as a consortium partner to implement the urban ERP and E-governance solution for NDMC Smart City.

The scope of the urban ERP project for NDMC includes design, development, implementation, and operations & management (O&M) of the ERP solution, and its integration with various NDMC Smart City applications. Strategic functions of the NDMC Smart City to be covered under the project include property tax, estate management, asset management, solid waste management, project systems (Engineering), central workshop, internal audit, and the citizen web portal.

Designed and developed exclusively for Indian smart cities, the Fluentgrid Urban ERP platform will equip NDMC to take on dynamic e-governance challenges that the smart cities deal with. A few among salient features of the Fluentgrid Urban ERP platform are ease of access for citizens and authorities; security access through Aadhar, digital signature based work processes and password encryption; transparency fostered by dynamic report-generation feature for authorities and transaction status updates for consumers; accountability through delegation of power; incorporation of service-level agreements to monitor timely delivery; and integration with legacy applications.

The project is expected to be completed in 12 months and enhanced over time through Fluentgrid’s quality control processes complemented by a close dialogue with consumers and the client.

Impact: Moving 15+ Million power consumers in India onto the cloud



Uttar Pradesh Power Corporation Ltd. (UPPCL) is the transmission and distribution utility in India’s largest state Uttar Pradesh through its five power distribution companies (Discoms), with more than 20 Million consumers having a connected load of 37,000 MW and energy sales of about 55,000 MU per year. The creation of Uttar Pradesh Power Corporation Ltd. (UPPCL) on January 14, 2000 was the result of power sector reforms and restructuring in UP (India), which is the focal point of the Power sector, responsible for planning and managing the sector through its transmission, distribution, and supply of electricity. The Government of Uttar Pradesh has formed MVVNL at Lucknow, PuVVNL at Varanasi, PVVNL at Meerut, DVVNL at Agra and KESCO at Kanpur as wholly-owned undertakings of the Government of Uttar Pradesh under the Companies Act, 1956 to undertake distribution and retail supply of power.

Create a sustainable impact by increasing Discoms’ revenue. Hence, some of the priority areas are increasing billing efficiency and enhancing customer satisfaction. The project also focusses on reducing daily operational challenges in rural areas for consumers not covered under the Restructured Accelerated Power Development and Reforms Programme (R-APDRP) by implementing a centralized billing and metering system in a cloud environment.

  • Considering the ease of any cloud deployment, the solution can be implemented without hassle in any utility
  • Over 200 resources deployed (Both onsite and offshore) for successful and time–bound implementation of the project
  • 100% opex with 0% capex from utilities, reducing their financial burden
  • UPPCL won Cloud Migration of the Year Award (2018) – Data Centre Dynamics
  • Fluentgrid CIS was piloted in two weeks flat as a proof-of-concept, before receiving a go-ahead for rolling it out to approx. 15+ Million consumers
  • This among the largest cloud-hosted utility CIS/CRM deployments in the world on a Per-Consumer-Per-Month (PCPM) model.

The cloud hosted billing and customer care solution for UP DISCOMs, implemented by Fluentgrid using its own CIS product suite, has now become a case study under the UDAY Scheme of Government of India. Fluentgrid @ ISUW 2019


Fluentgrid Limited has been a partner with India Smart Grid Forum (ISGF) since its inception and were the Technology Partner for 2019 edition of their flagship event India Smart Utility Week (ISUW). The 5th edition of ISUW was held from 12th March to 16th March 2019. We showcased our entire range of products and solutions from smart energy and smart city portfolio.


During the event, we launched our Utility Operations Centre (UOC) solution built on Actilligence Platform to provide the utility with the much needed critical decision making information at their fingertips. We also introduced our STS certified smart prepaid solution and India’s first IPv6 based smart metering solution.

We were also glad to share our experiences and learnings from some of our marquee projects like NDMC smart metering project and UPPCL cloud CIS project. NDMC is the first Indian utility to achieve 100% smart metering of electricity consumers. CIS solution hosted on cloud for four power utilities under UPPCL, is perhaps the world’s largest project of this nature on pay-as-you-go model.

Over the past two decades, Fluentgrid has acquired extensive experience in the energy and utilities domain; and we took the opportunity to share our experiences and journey during this event. The delegates who walked into our stall left satisfied with some good takeaways in terms of useful information, contacts and tips. It always has been a great experience meeting various peers, partners, utility officials during the ISGF events and this time was no different.

Fluentgrid to transform three power utilities of Odisha, India


Fluentgrid scored yet another significant win to transform commercial and enterprise operations for three power distribution companies -SOUTHCO, NESCO and WESCO- in the East Indian state of Odisha. Fluentgrid will implement CIS and ERP applications and provide IT infrastructure, in partnership with Bosch and ABM. The project is funded under the second phase of the Integrated Power Development Scheme (IPDS) scheme of the Ministry of Power, Government of India. The project covering about 4 million consumers across three DISCOMs, is being steered by OPTCL, one of the largest transmission utilities in the country.

Fluentgrid and its partners have come together with an aim to ensure time bound and fully compliant project implementation along with the required DC and DR setup, to ensure marked improvement in operational efficiency and customer engagement. Fluentgrid has been working with Odisha DISCOMs for more nearly two decades now and our corporate HQ in Visakhapatnam is very close to Bhubaneshwar, the capital of Odisha state. This cohesion, proximity and cultural alignment will help drive the project better and bring in the organization change management, which is so essential for a large and complex project of this nature.

The scope of the project includes implementation and management of the following for all the three DISCOMs in Odisha.

  • Establishment of data center (DC) IT infrastructure on premise and disaster-recovery center (DR) on the cloud
  • Implementation of billing and customer care solution with Fluentgrid CIS/CRM product suite
  • Establishment of Customer Call Centre (CCC) infrastructure with Fluentgrid eCall Contact Center product
  • Implementation of enterprise resource planning (ERP) solution with SAP ERP
  • Overall integration and testing of all IT applications and legacy applications
  • Project management activities of the entire scope of work for this project
  • Bandwidth and connectivity provisioning
  • Manpower provisioning for the project at various phases
  • Facility Management Services for five years, post-go-live
  • Training of personnel involved in the successful establishment and maintenance of various aspects of this project

Fluentgrid’s Actilligence in God’s Own Country


Fluentgrid scored yet another significant win to setup an Integrated Command, Control and Communication Centre (ICCC) solution for Cochin (aka Kochi) smart city. Fluentgrid is the Master System Integrator for this prestigious project in Kerala; the tourist haven of India, popularly known as God’s Own Country. Bharat Electronics Limited (BEL), a public sector aerospace and defence electronics company, is our consortium partner for the project.

Called the Queen of the Arabian Sea, Kochi was an important spice trading centre on the west coast of India, since 14th century. The 440 sq.km. city Kochi metropolitan region is home to about 2.1 million people. Kochi ranks first in the total number of international and domestic tourist arrivals in Kerala. The city was ranked the sixth best tourist destination in India, one of the 28 Indian cities among the emerging 440 global cities that will contribute 50% of the world GDP by the year 2025, the topmost emerging future megacity in India (Source: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kochi).

A year ago, Cochin Smart Mission Limited (CSML) embarked on an ambitious journey towards transformation of its core ICT infrastructure under Smart City guidelines. Cochin Smart City was one among the forerunners that were selected in Indian Smart City Mission’s Top 20 contenders. The August 2018 floods in Kerala delayed the whole process. However, the city turned out to be very resilient and the projects were soon put back on track.

Fluentgrid proposed a well-integrated technical solution on cloud and followed it up with a fully integrated demonstration on site that won appreciation from the project evaluation team and other stakeholders. The smart work and dedication by able team members coupled with experience and business acumen of team leaders helped us win the project.

The project involves setting up an Integrated Command, Control and Communication Centre (ICCC) with complex integrations to various smart elements and applications in the city. GIS and Project Management services along with ICCC build are other key components of the project. Fluentgrid will deploy its popular Actilligence for Cities platform to implement the ICCC solution for Kochi.
